Thosahanth, the Ogre King of Lonka, commissioned his brother, Gumpakanth, to fight King Rama and his brother, Laksaman, of Ayodhya. The scene opens with a duel between Laksaman and Gumpakanth, who succeeded in impaling Laksaman, with his sanctified lance, The Mokasakdi, in the chest. The lance could not be removed, Laksaman sufered from the great pain. King Rama then ordered Hanuman, the monkey warrior, to obtain the magical antidote to save his brother.
