One of Watcharee's cousins became a monk. Though the ceremony itself was understandably very monkish, the backup dancers added some needed spice to the show. I can't imagine Christianity, Islam or Judaism allowing so much fun at a 'religious' event. Their gods would have weeped, ranted and stamped their little feet.

River boats as seen from our porch ... all within 10 minutes.

Flow in the Millennium Hilton readies itself for dinner while Next2 at the Shangri-La is in full swing with its buffet. OK, this is just an excuse to fill today's space with food shots.

Today's Bangkok's DAILY XPRESS (a supplement to The Nation) carried an article in its THE CITY section about the planned transformation of the Charoenkrung section in Bangkok's Bangrak district. This is the area where we have been living for the past eight and a half years (2+ years at The Oriental and 6 1/2 years at River Garden). The area that will be transformed lies in a small bit of real estate that sits immediately to the south of The Oriental and just to the north of River Garden. And, it is pretty close to being just across the river from The Penninsula.

This development area is not a place that I frequently visit as it can only be entered either via Assumption College or a little soi (street) leading to the "The East Asiatic Company [Thailand] Limited" and the Assumption Cathedral. Prior to today I have only been there two or three times. So, for me it was exciting.

In the background of many of my photographs you can see bits and pieces of The Oriental and River Garden so you can easily judge where I was standing when I took these photos.

Being Sunday it is only fitting that THOCBDC visit Assumption Cathedral which, like in yesterday's buildings, is located in the Charoenkrung historic district. The absence of people in the pews suggests that I either didn't actually visit this place on a Sunday or Bangkokians are not too taken with Christ ... or both.
