Poor Next2 ... or what is left of it. The outdoor dining area of Next2, the buffet restaurant at the Shangri-La Hotel, is no more. Construction (destruction?) crews have started their five month project to give this popular Bangkok dining spot a new face and a new personality.
I got my first whiff of this destruction while looking out my window at River Garden this afternoon. The trees on the soi shielded most of the activity so I walked over to the hotel to get a better view.
One of these photographs shows the outdoor dining area as it was on its last night, about a week ago.
Looking out the windows from the 26th floor of the Athenee Residence.

A tale of two pools? No, I can't make a novel out of this. About all I can say is that the pool at River Garden has been freshened more than once since we moved here six years ago. The ones at Athenee Residence are brand new. The view from the River Garden pool is of the river while what one sees from the Athenee Residence pools are tall buildings. But, what do they have in common? All of them contain water and rarely do people actually swim in them. Well ... I guess kids do.
Hey, they are nice to look at!
OMG, I forgot how cool this park is! Yes, it is Lumpini.
Next2 is now nearly next to gone.
My friend, Dan, from Taipei and Shanghai sent these photographs of the rehearsal for the opening ceremonies for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
THOCBDC is fast becoming an e-ticket place ... when I am not at the car wash.
There is a small bar next to the lobby of The Peninsula Hotel here in Bangkok.
Between the first course and the last course the sky over the river went from light to dark. But, as usual, the food captured most of my film. Where was I eating? The Pen!
