Night views while I am eating French.
Our immediate neighbor is growing big. A year ago he was just a glorified hole in the ground.
Chesa is a Swiss restaurant on Sukhumvit Soi 20. Last night it delivered (1) Salmon Tartar (2) Tomato & Mozzarella Pearls (3) Osso Bucco (veal shank) and (4) Veggies. The food was delicious; but, that is only half of it ... presentation is very important, too.
Does the Osso Bucco look like something on a table or something in a toilet?
PS: This afternoon I chatted by car phone with Watcharee while I was at Lumpini Park checking on a cache named "Rocky".
For 8 1/2 years we lived in this neighborhood. Our two homes (The Oriental Hotel and River Garden) were separated by just a hundred meters or so. But, resting between these buildings lay some interesting but now decaying architecture. Some of it is secular and beautiful; some of it belongs to an ancient evil Roman cult that worships biscuits.
This is the life: work, laughter and food.
I know it is not a pure and authentic Spanish Omelet but I love it. I try to get here at least once a week. The Sala Thai restaurant is located between the Sheraton Hotel and River City. Situated right on the river it is a peaceful place for lunch ... followed by a relaxing foot massage at the Sala Thai Reflexology. Total cost for the afternoon? About $20. That's why I love living here.
River City has (well, almost) a new face. And most of its guts have also taken on new organs and plumbing. Here are some before photos (November, 2008) and some after (today) snaps of the skin.
Situated next to the Sheraton Hotel and just across the river from the Millennium Hilton Hotel this unique mall should get a lot of tourist traffic when it is discharged from the hospital in August.
In its former life River City was awash with antique and faux antique shops (more of the latter), boring eateries and drab tailors. The new place will host such wonderful places as 7 Eleven, McDonalds and hair salons. Why not something from Nana, Cowboy and Patpong?
I love Issan food ... especially the Issan sausage that we can buy on the street (soi). This spicy sausage wrapped in ice cold lettuce along with a fiery hot green pepper is a perfect mouth treat.
Watcharee's cousin, Apple, also makes a delicious green curry that rivals anything from Issan for heat.
