On January 28, just after the end of the Hot Air Balloon festival, the Breitling Orbiter took off from the same Chateau d'Oex launch field the Corkscrew Balloons had used. The Orbiter was embarking on an attempt to complete the first non-stop, non-refueled orbit of the earth in a balloon. It ultimately didn't make it, but throughout the round-the-clock preparations and then the Wednesday morning launch, the excitement in the air was electric!
Perhaps another attempt will be made from Chateau d'Oex next year!
