Mr. Peter Prentice, Captain
:
Now enjoying his 17th year of
elephant polo, Peter Prentice has accumulated a team of experienced WEPA
legends to compete for the King’s Cup 2004. Two World Championship medals
and a famous WEPA World Series Grand Slam title (2001) to his name,
Prentice has captained the convivial and generous CHIVAS REGAL team for
seven years. A useful player in his own right, he holds the record for the
fasted ever goal scored (4.5 secs) in WEPA history, achieved during the
King’s Cup 2003 semi-final play-offs. A man for all seasons, he can play
defence, midfield or attack, although arguably his best position is at the
bar orchestrating tidal waves of Chivas Manhattans for any unsuspecting
opposition. Under his leadership, the Chivas Regal team will once again be
looking to live life the full both on and off the pitch for the King’s Cup
Tournament 2004. |

| Mr. Matt Idiens :
W.E.P.A. World Champion 2003.
Director of VANE Minerals plc., mining entrepreneur and explorer of
excitement, Matthew has tried his hand at most sports and is a member of
the St. Moritz Tobogganing Club having ridden the Cresta for the last 16
years. A man of huge style and conviviality, he is used to the speed
and excitement that Elephant Polo throws at you. Having first played at
WEPA in 2001, he is now embarking on his 3rd WEPA outing and adds a
certain style and grace to the Chivas Regal team (with the exception of
“His Grace”). Matthew says he is honoured to have been asked to represent
Chivas Regal as reigning World Champion on the TigerTops Nepal Team 2003
and holder of the Chivas Regal Sporting Moment Award. With his team mate
Kristjan Edwards, it is likely that the evenings could be more competitive
than the matches! |

| Mr. Kristjan Edwards :
Kristjan Edwards W.E.P.A.
World Champion 2003, C.E.P.A. Champion 2004 CEO of TigerTops Nepal,
international sportsman and world traveller; a man of many talents and
tales. Kristjan is going for the treble having won the last two Elephant
Polo tournaments in Nepal and Sri Lanka. Among his many achievements, he
started the first Polo club in Mongolia and is also a member of the St.
Moritz Tobogganing Club. He has ridden the Cresta for the last 16 years
and is the fastest Icelander on the run. He comes from a great pedigree of
Elephant Polo players as his father, with James Manclark, started Elephant
Polo some 23 years ago. Kristjan has a string of 16 elephants but finds it
difficult to transport them to games, so will be utilising T.E.P.A.’s
excellent elephant this year. |

| Colonel Raj Kalaan, The Silver Fox :
Another WEPA veteran, the
Silver Fox is an established legend in both horse and elephant polo
worlds. Having played for India in the 70’s, Raj turned his skills to the
pachyderm variety in 1987, originally becoming captain of the Oberoi team.
However, his more exuberant love for Scotch saw him enjoy a high-profile
transfer to the Chivas team, from which he has never looked back. A master
in his art by day, the Silver Fox has also come to be known as one of
WEPA’s most enigmatic and charming apres polo celebrities. Never short of
a word (or a Chivas), he has charmed the world’s media from Ulaan Batur to
Cape Horn with is articulate anecdotes gained from years of merry
adventure. However, watch out for Raj on the pitch, he has made the Chivas
No’ 3 shirt his own after years of resolute and reliable defence - his
educated and elegant back-handers being the stuff of legend. |
